Brampton Interiors kitchen in St Albans goes viral

29 April 2024

“Are you planning a new kitchen? Here’s a great idea. Put your dishwasher higher up and next to the cupboard. We’ve had so many arguments over the years about whose turn it was to empty the dishwasher and now we fight over who does it.”

  • Judith Leary-Joyce, St Albans, 2024

A video of our client Judith using her dishwasher went viral on Instagram recently, reaching over 5 million views in a matter of days! In this article we revisit the kitchen and reflect on the phenomenon behind this success…

Eco-Friendly Kitchen

The Kitchen

It was great to be involved with this full open space transformation for our client’s kitchen and living area in St Albans. Carmel was the designer on this project and keeping the environment in mind was a top priority: from creating an eco-friendly design right down to the installation process.

In terms of colour scheme, we combined furniture in RAL 5023 (Distant Blue) and White Satin matt lacquer, and this was complemented by worktops in Grigio Venato by Arenastone.

Some ways in which we helped to meet Judith and John’s eco-friendly goals were (1) lining the walls with 80mm thick Pavaflex, skimmed with Lime Plaster and painted with breathable paint, (2) installing underfloor heating and (3) choosing furniture and appliances which carry certificates or health protection awards for protecting the environment. The Viral Video

“I thought John was bonkers when he suggested putting the dishwasher at waist height, but he’s been proven right. It has made life so much easier!”

The video of Judith unloading her dishwasher at waist-height into a neighbouring cupboard was a revelation to Instagram viewers around the world. After posting, she went from having 311 followers on 7 January to nearly 30,000 by 7 February and reached a total of 19 million views across her reels.

You can now find videos and advice on Judith’s account @ecorenovationhome that cover a range of topics, including reels that showcase other aspects of her new Brampton Interiors kitchen, including the Bora Pure X venting hob, concealed knife storage and compost bucket integrated into the work surfaces.

A self-identified “Insta-Gran” and expert on retrofits, the viral video has spurred Judith on to posting more, speaking on radio and to journalists, with an article due in The Times very soon: “I’m delighted that so many people are interested in making their home comfortable to live in, cheaper to run and more client friendly”.
