Beauty, symmetry and balance in a bright, industrial-style kitchen with smart features designed around the demands of daily life.
For this case study, we are delighted to share some words from our designer Carmel about this kitchen design and installation…
Running through my client’s requirements, it was clear that they are drawn to symmetry and the overall feeling of balance which aligned perfectly with my own design style. The client suggested I design something that I would be really happy with within my own home.
The Island was designed to be centred under the roof lantern, letting more natural light flood that area of the kitchen during the day. I know this seems like a fairly simple exercise, however, as we had a ducted venting hob, it was crucial that the duct was positioned in exactly the right place prior to the floor being screed. This requires accuracy and planning which is typically done during one of our earlier site visits.
But first, coffee! It’s becoming more and more common within the kitchen environment to have your own barista station. This client made that exact request, so we included this into the design without it being overly obstructive to the walkway.
Located behind this Island is the utility, working as an extension of the kitchen. Offering ample work surface space for mixers, blenders and other appliances to be out on the worktop and ready to use. Whilst there is plenty of space for appliances on the counters, there is also more than enough space for a washing machine, tumble dryer and also a tall unit for mops and brooms.
