Spotlight on: Green Kitchens

21 December 2024

Whether bright or subtle, colours can give a new feel to any room in your home. They express individuality and character and create atmosphere. It’s no surprise, therefore, that more and more of our clients are turning to a colour that fosters calm and closeness to nature: Green.

Why choose Green? This versatile hue has the ability to enhance the atmosphere of a kitchen in many ways. On a psychological level, green promotes relaxation and a sense of well-being. It is also a perfect colour for seamlessly bridging the indoors with the outdoors, especially when your kitchen features garden views or abundant natural light. Whether you opt for green-coloured furniture, a coloured wall or simply add some houseplants on the shelf, this colour brings the natural world into your daily life.

The Power of Green

We’re looking forward to fitting this beautiful green kitchen in St Albans (on the left) later this year!

As our designer, Natasha, explains: “Green is one of my favourite kitchen colours at the moment, it creates a passage through to our outside garden spaces.

It is a tranquil and calm colour while also creating a luxurious and sophisticated aura in each space. Paired with the soft wood accents and white gold veined worktops. 🌿🪵”

In this article, we’ll explore 5 case studies in which we have incorporated shades of green into traditional and modern kitchens in St Albans, illustrated with some photos and words from their designer, Carmel.

#1 Traditional Shaker Kitchen – Grange Street, St Albans

Colour: NCS S5020-G30Y Ash Matt Lacquer Shaker

Carmel: “This charming galley kitchen had all the elements to become something truly beautiful. By integrating the freestanding appliance behind doors, we managed to keep more of that lovely green visible while also addressing the practical need for these appliances.”

#2 Coloured Bar Stools – Luton Road, Harpenden

Colourful accessories like light fixtures, kitchen appliances and bar stools can be used to introduce or match accent colours in the overall design. It is also possible to add colour using recess elements such as open shelving or a breakfast bar. We love the industrial look of this kitchen in Harpenden with furniture in Graphite complemented by bronze and wooden accents plus a splash of colour with these velvet lime green bar stool seats.

#3 Modern, Schüller Kitchen – Marshalswick Lane, St Albans

Colour: Jaguar Green Velvet Matt Lacquer

Carmel: “This room had quite an unusual shape for an open plan concept – it was more of a ‘U’ shape, with the kitchen on a higher level and the dining and living area slightly lower. The ambitious idea of opening up this space turned out to be truly brilliant. It completely changes the flow, and now the room exudes a sense of luxury and unity, all seamlessly coming together as one.”

#4 Coloured Wall – Fryth Mead, St Albans

Carmel: “If you enjoy having colours around but are concerned they might not suit your taste in the long run, there’s no need to put them on the furniture. You can go for a simpler colour scheme for the furniture and then add something bold to the walls. This approach also means that if you plan to renovate to increase your home’s value but only plan to live there for a few years, anyone who moves in afterward can easily change the wall colours to their liking without having to redo the whole kitchen.”

#5 A Christmas Tree! – Kitchen in Watford

While it might not be a year-round feature, the festive greenery of a Christmas tree brings a sense of peace and nature into this beautiful kitchen in Watford. The foliage adorned with soft, warm LED lights above the cabinets adds a cozy glow and natural charm to the space. Combined with the stunning bifold doors opening out onto a snow-covered garden, this makes for a truly festive kitchen that blends indoor warmth with outdoor natural beauty!
